Account status

What each status means and what to do about it.

Status is the single most useful column on the Accounts list, because a copier pointing at an account that is not connected quietly does nothing.

The seven statuses

Connected — the terminal is logged in and heartbeating. This is the only status in which copying happens.

Validating — Trademetry is trying to log in. New accounts sit here when the first login attempt did not complete inside the validation window, and accounts being moved between hosts pass through it. It usually clears itself within a minute or two; the badge pulses while it lasts.

Disconnected — the terminal has stopped heartbeating. Most often the broker dropped the session; sometimes the host was restarted. Trademetry retries on its own and reconciles the status back to connected as soon as heartbeats resume.

Login failed — the broker rejected the credentials. This does not fix itself. Something changed at the broker: the password was rotated, the account was archived, or the investor-vs-master password is now the wrong one.

Error — the terminal reached a state that is neither a clean disconnect nor a rejected login. Try reconnecting; if it recurs, it is worth raising.

Disabled — you turned it off. The terminal is shut down and the account stops consuming a running session. It stays in your list with its history intact, and re-enabling it re-validates and brings it back.

Decommissioned — the account was removed from its host, usually while capacity was being moved around, and has no host at the moment. Reassignment puts it back.

Fixing an account

The reconnect button appears on the row for any account that is disconnected, has failed to log in, or has errored. It restarts the login.

Reconnect is the right first move for disconnected and error. It is almost never the fix for login failed — if the broker is rejecting the password, retrying it rejects it again. Edit the account, put in the current password, and save; that re-validates as part of the save.

If validation fails on save you get a specific reason, and it tells you where to look:

  • Credential validation failed — the server was reached, so the server name is right. Fix the login number or password.
  • Could not connect to broker server — the credentials were never tried. Fix the server name.

Balance and equity go stale, not wrong

An account that is not connected keeps showing its last known balance and equity. Those are the last values Trademetry saw, not live ones. A disconnected account showing yesterday's equity is behaving as designed — check the status before trusting the number.

Notifications

Trademetry raises a notification when an account connects, disconnects, or fails to log in, and these appear in the in-app notification feed. Repeat alerts for the same account are rate-limited, so a flapping connection produces a signal rather than a flood.

Connection alerts stay in the notification feed. They deliberately do not go into client digest emails, which are account summaries — your client should not be reading about your infrastructure.

Deleting an account

Deletion asks you to type the account's label to confirm. It is soft: the account can be restored, and its trades and history are kept.

If your goal is to stop an account trading without losing it, disable it rather than delete it — that is exactly what disabled is for. If your goal is to stop copying but keep the account live, change the copier's mode instead; see Copier modes.
